01 Information We Collect
When you use Nemo, we collect information you provide directly to us and information generated as you use the app:
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your full name, username, email address, and phone number. Your phone number is used solely for contact-based friend recommendations and is never sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes.
Profile Information: Your profile photo (if uploaded), display name, and username are shared with friends on Nemo.
Location Data: When you enable location sharing, we collect your real-time GPS location. See Section 3 for full details on how we handle location data.
Communications: Messages you send and receive through Nemo's in-app messaging feature.
Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the app, including features used, frequency of use, crash reports (if enabled), and device information such as operating system and app version.
Friend Connections: The friends, Circles, and Meet Ups you create within the app.
02 How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide and operate the Nemo app and its features
- To enable real-time location sharing with your approved friends
- To send push notifications about nearby friends, friend requests, and messages
- To suggest friend connections based on your phone contacts (only if you grant permission)
- To facilitate in-app messaging between you and your friends
- To improve app performance, diagnose technical issues, and fix bugs
- To enforce our Terms of Service and protect the safety of our users
- To communicate important updates about the app and your account
We do not use your personal information to serve advertisements, and we do not sell your data to third parties for marketing purposes.
03 Location Data
Location data is the core of what Nemo does. Here is exactly how we handle it:
What we collect: Your precise GPS coordinates when location sharing is enabled. Location is updated approximately every 60 seconds by default (configurable in settings).
Who can see your location: Only friends you have mutually added on Nemo can see your location on the map. You are always in control of this through Ghost Mode and individual privacy settings.
Ghost Mode: When Ghost Mode is enabled, your location is immediately hidden from all friends on the map. We may retain your last known location internally for operational purposes but it will not be displayed to any other users.
Background location: If you enable Background Refresh, Nemo will collect your location while the app is not actively open. You can disable this at any time in your device's location settings or within the app.
Location history: We do not sell your location history. Historical location data is retained only as long as necessary for operational purposes and is deleted on a rolling basis.
Revoking access: You can stop all location sharing at any time by disabling location permissions in your device settings or turning off Share Live Location within the Nemo app.
04 Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in the following limited circumstances:
With your friends on Nemo: Your name, username, profile photo, and location (when enabled) are shared with users you have added as friends.
Service providers: We work with trusted third-party vendors who help us operate the app — including cloud hosting, database infrastructure, push notification services, and analytics. These providers are contractually required to handle your data securely and only for the purposes we specify.
Legal compliance: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Nemo, our users, or the public.
Business transfers: If Nemo is acquired by or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
05 Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Specifically:
- Account data is retained until you delete your account
- Messages are retained as long as your account exists; deleting your account removes your messages from our servers within 30 days
- Location data is used in real-time and not stored as a permanent historical record beyond operational needs
- Crash and diagnostic data is retained for up to 90 days

06 Security
We take the security of your information seriously and implement technical and organizational measures to protect it, including:
- Encrypted data transmission using HTTPS/TLS
- Encrypted storage of sensitive account information
- Access controls limiting who on our team can access user data
- Regular security reviews of our infrastructure
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

07 Children's Privacy
Nemo is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to remove that information from our servers.

08 Your Rights and Choices
You have meaningful control over your data within Nemo:
In-app controls: You can update your profile information, toggle location sharing, enable Ghost Mode, manage notification preferences, and control your privacy settings directly within the app at any time.
Access and correction: You may request access to the personal information we hold about you or request corrections to inaccurate information by contacting us.
Deletion: You may request that we delete your account and associated personal information. Some information may be retained as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.
Data portability: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you in a machine-readable format.
Push notifications: You can manage notification preferences within the app or through your device's notification settings.
Location permissions: You can revoke location access at any time through your device's settings.

09 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email prior to the change becoming effective. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
Your continued use of Nemo after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
